Izalco is a volcano located right beside Santa Ana volcano, and had the nickname "Lighthouse of the Pacific" because it has erupted almost continuously during 1770 and 1958. It is said that when it erupts, the flare can been seen hundreds of miles away. This volcano has been and still remained as a national symbol of El Salvador.
This volcano, like Santa Ana, was also the inspiration for one of the active volcanoes in Antoine de Saint-Exupéry's famous French novella The Little Prince.
